Public outdoor spaces form the backbone of a city’s social life and mark as well city’s identity. They are “breathing” areas of the city, meeting places of social groups and contribute decisively to the quality of life and the improvement of the microclimate of the urban environment. Places open to the elements of the natural environment, such as sun, wind, water and green, play a regulatory role in the microclimate and environmental quality in the city and enable people living and moving in the urban area to come into direct contact with the elements of nature as they present bodies of operational nature in the built environment. The environment in these areas is locally differentiated from that of densely structured areas, generally providing better thermal, visual and acoustic conditions. At the same time, they host much of the social life in the city. As a place of movement and attitude of the people, there are connections between the different activities, buildings and flows of the built environment. They are places for people to meet together since they are taking place in commercial, recreational, sports and cultural activities.
